Tarusa occupied a really special place in the artist’s work. He came here every summer. Krymov perceived this landscape exactly as it should have been perceived. Round tree crowns, copses and fields, a small town with narrow streets. These paintings were traditional for central Russia.

Before us is one of the living personifications of such a landscape. In the foreground we see grass. Her color is special. The combination of green, yellow and brownish tones is really amazing.

The artist manages to register every blade of grass. In the middle ground, we see houses surrounded by fences. Next to them are shady trees. The artist deliberately does not prescribe the details of each house. We see mostly only triangular roofs made of wood.

In the distance you can still see the same field. And on the horizon stretches a strip of forest. The sky is quite gray. It is completely covered by thick clouds. But this does not create a gloomy mood among the audience. The painting is replete with shades of green and brown. It is as if from within drunk with light and the sun.

The artist manages to see the beauty of a completely unremarkable, at first glance, landscape. He not only depicts it, but also conveys his attitude to this picture. We feel that the painter not only loves Tarusa, but also truly admires her.

This town attracted Krymov for a reason. Very close was the estate of the famous artist Polenov. His favorite artist Borisov-Musatov was buried here. That is why he came here not only in summer but also in winter.

Krymov conveys his unusual love for the nature of his native land. His creation allows us to feel the artist’s natural proximity to this quiet beauty. We also understand that here the painter could feel truly free. Krymov creates an incredibly poetic image of this city.
