Dated 1543, materials - canvas, oil, dimensions - 242 by 361 cm. It is stored in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria.

The artist is the most prominent representative of the Venetian school, his fame from the Renaissance to the present day is compared with Raphael or Michelangelo. Among his favorite subjects were biblical and mythical stories, he paid great attention to the creation of magnificent portraits, for them very influential and wealthy contemporaries posed for him.

The basis of this picture was the scene from the Gospel of John. On Good Friday, when the people demanded the execution of Jesus, Pontius Pilate ordered the soldiers to beat him and dress him in the “king”: instead of the royal cape - a red cloak (scarlet), the crown was replaced with a crown of thorns, and the scepter was a thin branch. As such, pale and tormented depicts the son of God on the canvas. The procurator, by his deed, sought to arouse pity among the gathered crowd. Dressed in gold and azure, pointing to the defendant, he says a phrase that has become winged: "Ecce Homo", which means "ce man", "this is a man." Thus, it was emphasized that others are unfairly condemning an ordinary man to a terrible execution. However, the majority considers the verdict to be true - hands, spear, halberd, flag are raised up ... And only the girl, whom the foreman highlighted, doubted and dropped her head, the child looks at her in surprise and incomprehension. In addition to her, the common people and the warrior on the foreground steps were astonished at the decision: the first turned away and opened his mouth in amazement, the second - stooped over, staggered back and, fearing that his legs let him down, grabbed the shield.

Titian very accurately conveyed emotions, set color accents to create the desired oppressive effect. With great realism he painted faces, figures and muscles, details of outfits and weapons, the texture of fabrics. The composition, despite the impressive number of characters, is well balanced, I want to consider and analyze it.
